This month we bring you highlights of the ongoing use and misuse of international law. The clashing rhetoric of law reflects a deeper ideological conflict. Different views about the existence and nature of that conflict, and how to resolve it, are reflected in increased resort to the law. The result is that concepts like “genocide” are employed as weapons to achieve political and ideological aims. Western democracies suffer most from this over-inflation of the law.
